Snow Day #OOTD

down here in the south, snow days that actually include more than a dusting of snow are hard to come by. this time was different, and the snow provided a perfect backdrop for my first OOTD post!
shirt {vineyard vines} vest & ear warmer {aeropostale} jeggings {ross} boots {aldo} sunglasses {steve madden}

how cute is this stripped vineyard vines shirt?! what makes it even cuter is the fact that I purchased it at platos closet for $12. what a steal!

A Little Throw Back Thursday

I've been blogging for awhile now, most posts feature my personal opinions of products or things I've been liking, but no posts really feature the blogger behind it all..
So I figured now would be a good time to put a face to the name!
I'm a recent high school grad, and soon to be freshmen in college. I started this blog as a hobby, hoping to share my life, thoughts and experiences with anyone willing to take the time to read my blog.
I hope you'll subscribe and stay awhile!

So on this throw back Thursday, let's just start with the fact that I miss my long hair! I cut my hair back in March and am now in the process of growing it back out. Patience is a virtue my friends.

These pictures were taken last year while we were up in Cooperstown, NY (most commonly known as the home of the Baseball Hall of Fame!) visiting some family.
Next to our hotel was a beautiful sunflower patch so my mom and I snuck over to take some pictures! We weren't the only ones that loved the sunflowers...the bees were everywhere! But we managed to get a few pictures and avoid the bees!

Now for my very casual outfit deets: Shirt- Old Navy, Jeans- Levis, Headband- Forever21 Shoes- Rainbow Flip Flops (not pictured)

And lastly, if you ever find yourself in Cooperstown, make sure to head over to the Fly Creek Cider Mill to get fresh apple cider, apple pie and lots of other goodies!
Another family favorite, Sal's Pizza down on Main Street near the Hall of Fame. We have to make at least one stop for pizza..okay maybe more like two or three!

Thanks for stopping by,
Alyssa

Rainy Day Wishlist

Let me just fill you in, it has rained here in the south pretty much everyday in July.
This inspired me to share my rainy day wishlist with you.
& boy, do I wish I had these things over this past month!
With that being said, I'd much rather it rain everyday than be scorching hot, I'm talking mid 90's with a heat index of 100. That's the melt your makeup off your face, need water as soon as you step foot outside kind of heat that sucks the life right out of you.
I love these Sperry Top-Sider 'Pelican Too' Rainboots. They have a fun nautical pattern that I can't resist!

For a more affordable option, I really adore these Merona Zelene Rainboots in Berry from Target.

Now on to some rain jackets. As a soon to be freshmen in college, I'm sure a cute rain jacket will come in handy on those rainy walks to class.

I actually have this Guide Series Windstream Jacket from Gander Mtn in Pink.
It is touted as a windbreaker, but doubles as a rain jacket since it is water resistant. It is majorly affordable, works well and I highly recommend it! Plus, you could get it monogrammed, and make it look even more girly!

Lastly, we can't forget an umbrella. Rainy days won't stand a chance with rainboots, a rain jacket and an umbrella!

I am in LOVE with Lilly Pulitzer umbrellas. They make a rainy day less dreary and more cheery. (so cheesy, yet so true) You just can't go wrong with these stylish umbrellas, and did I mention they come in multiple patterns?

I hope you enjoyed my rainy day wishlist, maybe it will inspire you to...
Go run through some puddles and dance in the rain!

DIY Colored Vases

I'm sure it's no surprise to hear that I, like most women, love a good DIY craft project!
This project is similar to my DIY Makeup Brush Holder, with a different "technique" and much better looking results.
So without further ado...

I'm pretty pleased with the finished product, these are great for flowers, pencils, brushes, or for just a pop of color decoration. Oh, and did I mention how easy these were to make?!

This is what you'll need:

Empty Starbucks Frappuccino Glass Bottle
Acrylic Paint
Goo Gone
Paper Plates

What you need to do:

Pull off brand and nutrition stickers and use goo gone to get the leftover sticky off, it should also take off the little printed date on the bottle too.
Then pour acrylic paint in the bottle, rotate to cover as much of the bottle as possible, if you need more paint, add some more.
Once most of the inside of the bottle is covered with paint, you need to place it upside down on the paper plate to allow the excess paint to come out.
You may need to pick the bottle up and place it on a different part of the paper plate every once in a while, as quite a bit of excess paint will come out, after most of the excess paint has leaked out, you can then turn the bottle right-side up so it can finish drying.
I'd leave it overnight before I put anything in it just to ensure that it is completely dry.
And wah-la, a colored vase!
(who knew recycling could be so much fun & cute?)

As always, I hope you enjoyed this! Let me know if you try out this little project, I'd love to hear how it goes!

Nail Polish Collection

Since it's such a lovely rainy day here in the south, and for the love of my hair, there's no way I'm going outside, I figured I'd show you my nail polish collection!
 (top-bottom, left-right)
Essie: Smooth Sailing, A Cut Above, Chinchilly, Turquoise & Caicos, Peach Daiquiri.
Revlon: Jelly, Varnished, Glitz & Glam, Top Coat.
Sally Hansen: Polar Purple. China Glaze: Fifth Avenue. DelSol: Electrick!
Confetti: Belle Of The Ball. Wet n Wild: 420B.
Spoiled: Bite Me. OPI: Lincoln Park After Dark.
And that concludes my nail polish collection! Out of them all, I'd have to say that Essie is my favorite brand, I'm excited to pick up some new spring and summer colors! You also can't go wrong with OPI, but I find that the Revlon polishes work just as well.

Wishing you pretty polish, from my nails, to yours!

The Best Moisturizer - CeraVe

So it's no secret, moisturizer is a big part of a healthy skincare routine.
I have combination skin (oily & dry) and the dryness only got worse when my dermatologist perscribed a gel to help clear up teenage acne. To combat those drying effects she advised me to pick CeraVe. I use the facial moisturizing lotion made for the morning, but use the it for both morning and night. Let me tell you, it is the best moisturizer I have ever used!
It's non-comedogenic, which simply put means it won't block your pores. It's also non-irritating and has never caused any extra breakouts on my skin. I love the consistency, it's not too thin but not too thick and feels light-weight on your skin. One of the many other reasons CeraVe is my favorite is the fact that it already has UVA/UVB protection SPF 30 built in, so it gives your skin moisture and sun protection in one process! And lastly, it has little to no fragrance, which is great for those of you, myself included, who don't like stinky skincare products.

It normally runs about $12, but it lasts me for at least 6 months and works wonders. If you visit their website, they sometimes offer a printable coupon, so definitely go check that out and save a little money!
Let me know if you try it for yourself & what you think of it!
